It’s very easy to get attached to your player character in Fallout 3 primarily because you’ve been with them since the beginning. Quite literally, as the game opens with your birth. The game shows you your childhood and then rips that safety away from you. Very rarely do games let you live out your early days in relative safety before things spin on their axis quite the way that Fallout 3 does. With your Father missing and having just been chased out of your home, there’s an unshakeable feeling of isolation despite how big your brave new world is.
