10 Video Games That Made Their Creators Leave The Industry
2. LawBreakers
Cliff "CliffyB" Bleszinski is best known for his tenure at Epic Games between 1992 and 2012, where he worked on the Unreal and Gears of War franchises, after which he left to take a break, which very nearly resulted in him retiring from the business altogether.
However, Bleszinski returned in 2014 with the opening of his new studio, Boss Key Productions, the first release of which would be arena shooter LawBreakers.
Despite receiving positive reviews upon release, the game failed to maintain a user-base, resulting in Boss Key being dissolved less than a year after the game's summer 2017 release.
LawBreakers' servers were switched off a few months later, and after a desperate attempt to cash-in on the battle royale craze with the hastily-assembled Radical Heights, in late 2018 Bleszinski confirmed he was quitting the industry entirely, declaring, "I'm done."
He later invoked the ire of fans by declaring that he may have made LawBreakers "too woke" due to the inclusion of gender-neutral bathrooms, fearing that it harmed the game's commercial potential. Right.
In the years since, CliffyB has worked as co-producer of the Tony award-winning musical Hadestown and invested in restaurants, while also planning to publish a memoir of his career.
While it wouldn't be that surprising to see Bleszinski back in games development one day, for now he seems pretty adamant that the dream is over.
