10 Video Games That Made You Quit Gaming
3. Super Mario 3D All Stars' Limited Release
In the gaming industry, Nintendo probably has the best reputation out of the biggest names out there.
Nintendo, for the most part, goes hand-in-hand with quality products. Their first-party games are usually fantastic, but behind their games, sometimes the Big N is incredibly anti-consumer.
One of their biggest anti-consumer moves in recent memory was the release of Super Mario 3D All Stars, a celebration of everything Mario over 35 years. It compiled together Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy into one package for the Switch, remastered in HD.
That's fair enough, and many people loved it. But what wasn't great was the fact that - for no apparent reason - Nintendo announced that this was a limited-time release, meaning it was only available for a limited period of time until March 31st, 2021.
You can't help but think that was done entirely to make the game feel like it was artificially scarce, driving up sales significantly as players scrambled to get it before it became unavailable. It must have worked - they managed to shift 9 million copies of it before it became unavailable!
That doesn't mean we have to like it though...it just feels - icky.
