10 Video Games That Make You A Better Gamer

4. Darkest Dungeon

Dark Souls III

As far as resource management games go, Darkest Dungeon is one of the most difficult ones to get right. The game is designed so that you always feel like you're on the back foot, whether that's in terms of how much food you have, or how much firewood, or how many shovels or potions you brought into any given dungeon. Every item you bring with you better be worth it, for when you're already behind on finances it's the difference between life or death.

But that's not the only resource you have to manage in Darkest Dungeon, as the characters you recruit and train up are constantly on the verge of a nervous breakdown, and usually a few hits away from death. You're simply behind on every front right from the start, and that's what makes Darkest Dungeon so unique in the way it challenges players. Regardless of how high level you get your characters, eventually their negative traits will become too much and they'll inevitably die.

Darkest Dungeon tests not only your tactics in combat and your management of party compositions, but also your personal resolve as a player, for after the third or fourth party wipe it becomes difficult to maintain the willpower to go on, though finishing the game on the highest difficulty earns a certain level of renown and personal achievement.
