10 Video Games That Might Literally Scare You To Death

6. Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly

Originally released in 2003 for the PlayStation 2, Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly gained a resurgence in popularity last year when it was re-released on the PlayStation Network. Known for being almost gruellingly terrifying, the series director has spoken at as saying Fatal Frame II was too scary for most players to finish. In response, the team put extra effort into creating a more compelling narrative in later entries, to encourage players to stick with it. The reason for Fatal Frame II being so terrifying was primarily due to the method by which players were forced to dispatch of the game's enemies. The primary adversaries come in the form of malevolent spirits, which can only be dispelled through the use of the 'Camera Obscura.' The ghosts are defeated by having their photo taken, but are only visible while looking through the Camera Obscura's lens. There aren't many gaming moments more horrifying than knowing you're in a room filled with deadly spirits, that you can only see by looking through the claustrophobic view of a camera. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9czbIFtje3o
