Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is one of the most innovative third-person adventure games of the last 20 years, defined by the player's ability to use the Dagger of Time to rewind time and fix their silly mistakes.

This invention extends to the game's story also, which begins with the Prince telling the tale of his adventure to an unknown third party.

The rest of the game then plays out, climaxing with the death of his companion Farah, after which the Prince stabs the magical hourglass, causing time to rewind all the way back to the beginning of the game.

We then see the Prince visit a now-alive Princess Farah, revealing that he was telling the story of the game to her all along.

After this, the player battles the Vizier as the game's final boss, and that's all she wrote, while Farah is left believing that the original rewound events of the game were nothing more than a fable spun by the Prince.

To make the twist even cuter, it's hinted at throughout the game when you die, as the Prince makes various remarks about how things were supposed to go. Genius.
