10 Video Games That Were SAVED From Destruction
9. Titanfall 2

Titanfall 2's story is unusual in that its near-death experience wasn't brought about by corporate machinations, but by that most dreaded of groups: anonymous internet ars*holes.
By the tail end of 2021, Titanfall 2 was in a bad way. As explained by PC Gamer, DDoS attacks from sociopathic hackers rendered the game's official servers nigh-unusable - a death sentence for a game primarily enjoyed for its multiplayer component (Titanfall 2's single-player campaign was excellent, but it's not what kept people coming back to its mechs-n-parkour action).
However, help was at hand. In the December of that year, a group of heroic modders opened the Northstar server browser. This allowed players to circumvent the embattled official servers and join player-run servers instead. As well as allowing fans of mech-on-mech violence to enjoy Titanfall's exhilarating combat without fear of server shutdown, Northstar also opened up the avenue for players to create their own custom rules and mods for their server.
Northstar is still going strong today, and represents an all-too-rare highlight for one of gaming's most unfortunate franchises.
