10 Video Games Transformations That Will Make You Sick
2. Altered Beast (2005) - Extreme Power, Extremity Cost
The original Altered Beast, for all of its clunk, is an outright classic. The transformations into various beasts were fun, if a little basic. So when it came to a remake, you'd expect these to be jazzed up slightly, right?
We're in the age of the FMV now, we should be seeing man turn into were-beast in cool and exciting ways. Transformations should be captivating and imaginative animations, rendered in lovely PS2 graphics.
But of course, this was the cool nu-age of ramping everything up to the extreme. Hell, not even John Landis' werewolf transformation in his movie was this gross.
You don't see eyes popping, for one. Nor do you see fleshed splayed from bone before said bone painfully morphs into claw or talon. Each transformation looks so insanely over the top and unnecessarily gory, and for what? Shock value?
Why Sega besmirched one of their classics is beyond me, as this had nothing to do with the original game. It's as if they wanted to be cool and jump on the edge-wagon, and this was the way to do it.
