10 Video Games You Didn't Realise Were Secretly Sequels
9. Code Vein - God Eater
Bandai Namco's Code Vein is a stylish and action-packed souls-like that blends sci-fi anime visuals with vampires - here known as Revenants. The world lore establishes a dystopian setting in which its characters are locked inside a city - The Gaol of the Mist - by a red mist, with monstrous beings known as Horrors prowling outside.
As you might expect, this red mist eventually dissipates, finally giving the players a glimpse at these mysterious Horrors. It's at this point that fans of the monster-bashing God Eater series will start saying, "Wait a minute. They look familiar. Are those monsters what I think they are?" And it turns out, yes, they are.
The creatures outside the city are revealed to be Aragami, the terrifying beasties you battle against throughout the God Eater series, thus linking the properties together. It's not explicitly stated where or how Code Vein sits in the timeline, but the appearance of these monsters is too much to ignore.
Code Vein is now getting an overt sequel called Code Vein II, as announced at Summer Game Fest. So, perhaps clearer answers await there.
