10 Video Games You Didn't Realise Were Secretly Sequels
8. Shadow Hearts - Koudelka
When game developer Sacnoth revealed the game Shadow Hearts, they did so under the impression that it was a brand-spanking new IP. This RPG was marketed as something fresh, a new attempt by the company to establish itself on the PlayStation after its previous attempt, Koudelka, sold poorly - despite receiving critical praise.
The thing is, Sancoth duped everyone, as Shadow Hearts was not as original as they claimed; in fact, it was a stealth sequel to Koudelka.
While it was clearly not a direct follow-up, the sheer amount of crossover between the games made it obvious they were connected. For a start, the final chapter of Shadow Hearts took place in the Nemeton Monastery in Wales, where Koudelka was set. On top of that, the Émigré Manuscript, a dangerous ancient tome, played a pivotal role in both properties. Hell, even the titular Koudelka Iasant herself appeared in the game, with her son, Halley Brankett, acting as a playable party member.
It seems they just couldn't let go of their artistic vision.
