The shared universe of ID Software games is not only fun because it creates a connection between the worlds of Doom and Wolfenstein but also because it does the same for the games' protagonists.

Wolfenstein explores quite a bit of the lineage of the series' protagonist, William "B.J." Blazkowicz. It shows us his son, Arthur Blaze, and then his grandson, William Joseph Blazkowicz II. This is important because Blazkowicz's family becomes the target of a powerful demon in Wolfenstein RPG. The demon, called the Harbinger of Doom, is summoned by the Nazis, and Blazkowicz has to defeat him by blowing off his arm and leg and then sending him back to the pits of hell. Before disappearing, the demon vows to torment Blazkowicz's family for the rest of time.

The same demon can also be encountered in Doom, where it is known under the name "Cyberdemon". The name is a reference to his mechanical arm and leg, as his organic ones are curiously missing.

Given how often Doomguy has to deal with the Cyberdemon, it is highly possible that he is a member of the Blazkowicz family. ID Software's co-founder, Tom Hall, has confirmed this theory in a Twitter thread in 2018.
