10 Ways God Of War PS4 Was Almost COMPLETELY Different
5. The No-Cut Camera Was Almost Cut
One of God of War's biggest selling points, was the no-cut camera. Which is, essentially, the opposite of most movies, TV shows, and video games. A no-cut camera is when there is only one angle and it never stops. So from the second you press Options to begin God of War, right until you roll credits, the camera never changes to an alternate angle.
In case you haven't figured it out, that's an extraordinarily difficult task to achieve. As such, it seemed like an unnecessary hurdle for many of the developers at Sony Santa Monica. For the first two years of development, the no-cut camera divided the staff at the studio, with many of them asking for it to be, ironically, cut out of the game altogether.
The game was to be officially revealed at E3 2016 but, the week before the event, a member of Sony Santa Monica approached Cory Barlog and asked him to not talk about the camera, so if they had to pivot they wouldn't have to go back on their word. Barlog instead made a point of talking about the camera, to force the studio into making it work. Necessity is the mother of invention, after all.
