10 Ways The PS5 Will DESTROY The Next Xbox
4. PS5 Pro Available At Launch
Both Sony and Microsoft's mid-gen console refreshes have been mixed bags. Though they extended the life of the generation and allowed devs to give players better games that exceeded the capabilities of the underpowered original machines, they weren't totally utilised to their fullest extent.
They came too late in the console cycle, and devs couldn't properly harness their power without alienating the majority of fans who stuck with the base machines. There's no point having the 'world's most powerful console' if 90% of your games don't take advantage of it.
Instead of going back to the idea of one regular console for an entire generation though, recent leaks have suggested that both the Pro and the base PS5 will be available for purchase at launch.
This is genius for a couple reasons. For one, it ensures that the company won't have to limit their console's capabilities to keep the price down, and two, it should mean that developers can really take advantage of the added horsepower.
Extra options are always good, and this approach should mean the PS5 remains affordable and accessible without falling behind when it comes to specs.
