10 Ways To Make 2017 A Great Year For Video Games

5. A Resurgence Of The Platformer

The last generation of games pretty much killed the platformer. We still had some standouts like Super Mario Galaxy, but other icons like Ratchet and Clank, Jak & Daxter, Spyro, Prince of Persia ETC. were left out or butchered to the point where they became unrecognisable.

However, it seems like the market is starting to come back a bit when it comes to this genre of gaming. The indie market has been flooded for years with puzzle platformers like Fez and Super Meat Boy, and it seems like 2017 is going to bring those ideas to a more massive audience

With Crash Bandicoot Remastered and the Banjo Kazooie successor Yooka Laylee coming out, it seems like the platformer is going to live on. With the addition of a brand new Mario game (hopefully it will be out this year, or this bit would become useless) on the horizon, it might be the year of platforming - if it all goes well of course. Fingers crossed.
