10 Ways Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Was Almost Completely Different
2. A Version Of Impa? (Or Sheik?)
Part of a flurry of images towards the close of the documentary show a variety of initial concept sketches with little explanation, one of which being the above.
Sound off in the comments who you think this is, as it could be anybody from Link to Zelda, Impa to even Sheik; Zelda's more adventure-free alter-ego from Ocarina of Time.
In-game, Impa was transformed far away from her sleeker, younger self and more into a 'wise old sage' archetype, potentially hinting that this more armoured design was reserved for Sheik to make a surprise appearance. The latter would certainly fit with the selection of memories that show Zelda attempting to adventure outside Hyrule Castle, trying - and failing - to tap into her latent power over and over.
There's a real sense of trapped potential inherent in Breath of the Wild's Zelda; a theme runs throughout the game, and would probably have been too obvious, had the team let her embody the Sheik persona once again.
