10 Ways Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Was Almost Completely Different
10. Implementation Of Guardian Tech - Guns & Grappling Hooks
In-game, whilst you can find a certain place that will let you purchase and equip Guardian weapons like spears, buzzsaw blades and shields, it appears during the development phase that this would've extended to a couple more implementations.
First is a bomb-firing gun, which would've made for the first firearm seen in the series. Nintendo did keep the idea of using bombs as part of both combat, exploration and puzzle solving, but they totally ditched this next concept - a context-specific grappling gun.
Taking a page out of Batman's book, it looked like you'd of been able to grapple up to specific points marked out by these 'Guardian fireflies', though in the end, the decision was assumedly axed so the player had free reign to climb anywhere they'd like.
Across these early stages, Nintendo danced with the idea that Link could become one with Guardian tech itself, resulting in the almost monstrous/demonic design seen on the left, yet in the final version, the nearest you can get to this appearance is buying the full set of Guardian armour from the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab.
