Addiction to Football Manager has quickly gone from an in-joke between players of the game who knowingly spend way too much free time thinking about imaginary squad formations and interview questions, to a widely-known joke surrounding a strange pop cultural cult, to a very real thing that people actually take seriously. So seriously, in fact, that apparently in 2010 Football Manager was cited in over 35 divorce filings as at least part of the reason for the break-ups €“ a figure which has surely soared as the popularity of the franchise has increased. Now, that isn't so suggest that in some cases FM is being used to gild the lily or support other reasons for marriage dissolution. But at the same time, that's a lot of examples of addiction to a footie management sim featuring in legal proceedings. It might sound bonkers, but if you've ever been around somebody who doesn't understand your obsession €“ whilst your pour hours of life you could be, y'know, socialising or making out €“ it starts to seem quite reasonable.
