10 Most Widely Celebrated PS3 Games

1. Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V1 Some would say it's a sad reflection of society €“ the fact that the most successful PS3 game to date (and probably for the rest of time) is one that replicates some of the most sinful activities a human can participate in during their lifetime. If one is so inclined, it is possible to steal, hijack, torture, murder, and break the speed limit, as well as a host of other pastimes that many may frown upon. If you are one of these people that believe the medium of entertainment has a direct influence in real-life behaviour, you would argue that games like GTA V should be thoroughly vetted before release, if not banned altogether. But there are others (like myself) that have a proud and firm understanding of the difference between real life and fictional life. People like us regularly engage in video games of a violent nature, and watch films that involve less-than-savoury characters and their horrendous actions. We find it stimulating to place ourselves in a world far removed from our own, and explore them in all their unsettling glory. It's interesting, and in a lot of circumstances, educational €“ the world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's these types of people that will purchase Grand Theft Auto, play it through, and carry on with their lives without even a second's contemplation of duplicating their virtual actions in real-life. In other words, just because we play games rated 18+ doesn't make us sadistic closeted murderers €“ much like driving a car doesn't make you a crazed Lewis Hamilton wannabe. For those people that have had the utter joy of playing Rockstar's latest creation, isn't it bloody great? The open world of Los Santos bustling with things to do, the quirky characters (both PC and NPC), heck even the driving mechanics are good €“ and like any GTA title, it has been thoroughly drenched in a bubbling vat of satire. It is perfectly possible to take part in a two-hour session, go nowhere near the story missions, and still stay absolutely captivated €“ now that's the sign of a good game. Early-release glitches did become a slight nuisance, in fact you'd be hard-pressed to find more bugs on an insect farm €“ but for a map as vast as it is, you have to be prepared for some minor issues. I almost feel as though I should apologise for the predictability of our number 1 title, Grand Theft Auto V is the fastest selling entertainment product in history (making around $1 billion within three days), and as you would expect, one of the most enjoyable gaming titles of all time. The three-pronged protagonist force that is Franklin, Michael and Trevor leave little to the imagination, and after a long day of imagining I'm not at work, that's exactly what I want.
