5. Philips CD-i

One of the more ambitious if thoroughly misguided gaming creations, Philips' CD-i was meant to do pretty much everything except get you dressed in the morning; it could basically operate just about any type of CD you inserted into it, be it video games, music CDs or karaoke discs. Unfortunately, enthusiasm for the platform proved oddly low from the outset, as it featured a library including dull, idiotic educational games (that really didn't much educate), and some of the worst iterations of some of the best gaming franchises out there, including, yes, Mario and Zelda. Nintendo were at least able to say they didn't have a hand in developing the games, as they simply loaned the license out to Philips. Unfortunately, however, Nintendo don't really have a defense for what comes next on our list...
