10 Worst No. 3's In Gaming History
9. Master Of Orion 3
We're old enough to remember reading a review of Master of Orion 3 in the excellent PC Gamer UK. 20 years later - almost to the day - and the reviewer's disappointment still plays fresh in our minds.
To give you the necessary context, Master of Orion II came out in 1996 to much acclaim. It was seen as the king of the 4X Space genre, and when its sequel was released in 2003 many expected the latter to take its predecessor's crown.
Put simply: that did not happen.
Buggy, broken and with an interface that actively thwarted any attempts to enjoy the game on its own merits, Master of Orion 3 sounded the death knell for a once-admired series. The 4X genre may be in rude health, with the likes of Galactic Civiliziations, Stellaris and Endless Space providing countless hours of entertainment for interstellar dictators, but Master of Orion appears destined to remain on its deathbed forevermore.
