10 Worst Politicians In Video Games

2. Laila Law-Giver, Jarl Of Riften (Skyrim)

Kind, experienced and just – what’s not to like about the Jarl of Riften? Well, she supports the ambitious agitator/freedom fighter Ulfric Stormcloak, which depending on your factional choices is either smart or stupid, but she also exhibits one facet that would make her ideal for real-world politics: She lives in her own unreal bubble.

In fact, Laila Law-Giver is one of the most clueless rulers we’ve ever come across. In her crazy head, Riften is a peaceful town, in which she carries influence over its subjects and has the Thieves Guild under her control. Now take all of that, reverse it, and you have the truth. Riften is a filthy sea of corruption and nothing happens without getting the nod from conniving businesswoman Maven Black-Briar – a woman Laila actively respects as a model citizen. It might not be her fault that her courtiers lie to her, and convince her that Riften’s a nice place to live. But it’s definitely her fault for not climbing down from that ivory tower and seeing what the town is really like.

Still, her naivety, though oddly charming, proves to be her downfall. If you side with the Imperials against the Stormcloak she’ll be exiled and replaced with… Maven Black-Briar. Welcome to Riften!
