10 Worst Video Game Tutorials Ever
9. A Big Tutorial Island - Pokémon Sun and Moon
The Pokémon games are clearly targeted at kids, which is why they have a tendency to overexplain things, no matter how simple or insignificant they seem.
For the longest time, the silver lining to this was that these "useful" hints were mostly optional—once you left the starting area, the NPCs would give you their worthless advice only if you asked them to.
This all changed with Pokémon Sun and Moon and their infamous tutorial, which might be considered the most tedious and painfully long intro in the series' history.
Why? Unlike their predecessors, Sun and Moon don't use the starting town as the tutorial area. Instead, they put you on an entire island of tutorials!
The first of the four islands in Alola is pretty much fully designed to act as a giant introduction to the most rudimentary of mechanics.
This means that about 25% of the game is just NPCs explaining things to you or creating artificial roadblocks to give themselves even more opportunities to babble about tips and hints.
Getting through the tutorial can easily take up an hour of your time, and the worst part is that you're not really going to walk out of it feeling as though you learned something useful.
