10 Worst Video Game Tutorials Ever
8. Something Different - Spider-Man 2
The Spider-Man 2 game for the PlayStation 2 is beloved for its absolutely brilliant and innovative web-slinging mechanics. What it isn’t so well remembered for is its tutorial, which is as bizarre as it is annoying.
Instead of creating dedicated tutorial levels in order to acquaint the player with the necessary gameplay elements when they need it, the game features over 200 hint marks, which give you random hints and trivia about the game when you move into them.
The system wouldn’t necessarily be bad if the marks appeared in specific missions, but in reality they are scattered all over the open-world map, and some of them don’t even contain hints about the game but random trivia about Spider-Man and real-life New York City!
To make things even less informative, one of the marks tells you that the narrator for the hints will tell you “something different” if you manage to find them all. By that he means that when you finally listen to all the hint marks in the game (again, more than two hundred different locations on the map), the narrator will literally start saying the words "something different" every time you trigger them.
And yes, it’s funny, but now the tips make even less sense than before!
