Never did humanity think a day would come when Colossal Cave Adventure, a video game from 1976, would be remade for the current age. Those unfamiliar with the archaic text-based saga can't help being a little curious to see how developers of today recreated a video game that predates the NES by nearly a decade.

Although 2023's Colossal Cave still involves collecting treasures while avoiding serpents, greedy dwarves, and fire-breathing dragons, the gameplay is massively different, since players can see their surroundings this time! (Back in the day, gamers had to rely on their imagination.)

Sounds fun, right? Well, it would've been if Colossal Cave came out 25 years ago. This version is so bereft of content and features, it would've been considered average if released during the PSOne era. Also, this

Although it seems mean to punch-down on a reboot of a property that's nearly half a century old, Colossal Cave just doesn't have much to offer, not even for nostalgists. If cave exploration titles are your cup of tea, you should check out vastly superior SteamWorld Dig or Spelunky series instead.
