5. Samanosuke's Weapons & Powers Are Wiped By Time Travel - Onimusha 3: Demon Siege

In the Onimusha series, protagonist Samanosuke is imbued with the power of the Oni clan, allowing him to battle the demonic entities known as Genma, and absorbing their souls in order to enhance his weapons and armour.

But a spanner is thrown in the works in the third game, when Samanosuke is accidentally transported from feudal Japan to modern day Paris circa 2004.

Samanosuke quickly notices that not only has his gauntlet has been drained of its Oni power, but his previous weapons - Raizan, Enryuu and Shippuu - are also lost due to travelling through time. Curiously time travel didn't have any effect on Samanosuke's clothes or, well, anything else, though.

Obviously this was just a convenient way to reset Samaonosuke's abilities and have the player fight to build them back up again, but even for the rather lax logical standards of the Onimusha series, this wasn't a particularly coherent explanation.
