100 Things You Never Knew About Resident Evil

69. Resident Evil 2's Soda Signage

Resident Evil loves America and what's more Americana than a cold, refreshing can of Coca-Cola™️? It doesn't matter where you go in the world, you can track down a taste of that sweet, caramelised sugar (other soda brands are available).

And this isn't necessarily not true of Raccoon City which, at one point, had a very obvious play on the famous fizzy drink in it's pre-rendered backgrounds.

In the standard NTSC release of the game there's a vending machine on the second floor of the RPD with the words "Cool Soda" splashed across in a very familiar font on top of a very suspect background. This also appears in the city streets when playing a B playthrough. However, these images were both removed in the international releases and on the further DualShock Ver rerelease. Whether Coca-Cola threatened Capcom or if the company just decided to play it safe, we may never know.

Considering the Cho-Cha-Cola signs still spotted on a couple of vending machines elsewhere in the precinct, it might be the latter. At least they won't ever go thirsty thanks to that sweet Cho-Cha-Cola taste™️!
