It's coming, you know that, right? A recent filing on Steam's database website listed Half-Life 3, the source of the entry being traced back to inside Valve HQ, so we know they're working on something Half-Life-related. Thing is, after all this time and all this hype around tying up one of the biggest cliffhangers in gaming history, they're not just going to roll it out without due purpose. Think about the Steam Machine, and think about the fact they've got a headset to push - one that right now has zero to offer that the competition isn't already doubling down on. Enter Half-Life 3, and all that changes. I'm not saying your average consumer is going to give that much of a hoot right away, but the gaming press will make a bigger song and dance about this than the world's New Year celebrations going off in one place. HL3 is exactly the thing that Valve need to make the world take notice of both their new console and VR hardware. It makes the most sense business-wise, and with Steam stumbling a little thanks to some holiday server mishaps, they need a big win going into 2016.
