11 Fantasy Premier League Players You Must Steer Clear Of

8. Per Mertesacker (Arsenal) - £5.0

Not only is Per Mertesacker out injured for the next three months, but when he returns his position will be under enormous threat. Having lost his place to Brazilian defender Gabriel for an extended period midway through last term, the big German eventually reclaimed his spot but a knee injury in pre-season has proved a big setback.

Not a huge favourite among the Gunners faithful, with some whispering that his injury is a blessing in disguise, it looks as though his days could be numbered with Arsene Wenger sanctioning the big money signing of Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia.

The big German may have collected a credible 71 points last season, but he’d do well to see much game time at all this season. Once he returns from his lay-off, he could very well be fourth-choice centre-half at the club.
