11 Fantasy Premier League Players You Must Steer Clear Of

4. Eric Dier (Spurs) - £5.5

Eric Dier has had a fabulous year. Having struggled to nail down a starting role in his first season at Spurs, last year was when he truly came of age. Commanding a position in the middle of the park, Dier ran the show next to both Moussa Dembele and Dele Alli when he dropped deep. The Englishman was the metronome of a brilliant Spurs midfield and garnered rave reviews, drawing comparisons to the likes of Rafael Marquez in his pomp.

A virtual ever-present, his 130 points meant that there were no Fantasy League tacticians regretting his selection. So after singing his praises, why do I suggest that you don’t go near him? In last year’s edition, Dier was listed as a defender. It didn’t take long for amateur tacticians to realise that they could take advantage of this loophole and collect clean sheets from Dier, despite him playing as a deep-lying midfielder for Mauricio Pochettino.

The bigwigs behind the Fantasy League game have probably been chomping at the bit to change that since last September however, and have rightfully moved him into the midfield for this edition.

So no clean sheets, and no goals. He may be a top-class player, but he has now been rendered a virtually useless Fantasy League pick.
