11. Jenova (Final Fantasy VII)

Bit of a curveball to start off with considering the rest of this list, but bear with me. FF7s multi-encountered behemoth Jenova and her cell-born brethren provide one hell of a surrealistic-looking antagonist in the wonderful world of Final Fantasy VII. Its a wonder that outside of the graphical elements, VII holds up remarkably well today considering its 16 year age. Yet with that being said, one of the most horrific reveals in the game comes as protagonist Cloud first discovers a batch of mutated experiments all enclosed within incubation tanks. It could be totally subjective, but that first look into one of the tanks has always stayed with me, possibly because of the image itself, consisting of a creature suspended in a state of constant pain, or maybe due to the otherwise grandiose and wondrous nature of the franchise overall. That sudden contrast perfectly fit the story of Sephiroth discovering his true origin, wrapping the entire encounter and the subsequent multiple bossfights into legendary territory.
