11 Things We Learned From PlayStation Meeting 2016

The long-awaited PlayStation Meeting 2016 has taken place... and the Internet seems firmly divided on what Sony brought (or rather, didn't) to the table.

Yes, the much-discussed PS4 Neo was finally revealed among other things, but the staggeringly short 45-minute presentation was severely lacking in jaw-dropping reveals, such as a new IP to truly show off 4K technology.

Coming away from the conference, it's easy to see how some might be turned off by what's to come, and it remains to be seen whether their year-long lead over Microsoft's Project Scorpio will allow them to corner the market first or simply result in their arrogance closing the sales gap between the two companies.

You thought Sony had the console war in the bag? Not quite. It's all still to be played for as defined generations become a thing of the past and interstitial console upgrades become the next big thing.

Here are 11 things we learned from the PlayStation Meeting 2016...

11. The PS4 Slim Is Real & Launches September 15th

The meeting kicked off with the news basically everybody knew already after retail units began circulating in the wild several weeks ago.

That's right, the PS4 Slim releases on September 15th for $299/£259, and in addition to all the usual PS4 bells and whistles, features a few refinements to the original.

Of note, there's more space between the front USB ports, the optical port is gone (a rather unpopular decision), it's around 30% smaller than the regular PS4, and it uses 28% less power.

While this is more for those who have yet to adopt a single PS4 console, it was still a welcome announcement, if totally predictable.
