6. Dying Light 2
With the original Dying Light taking people by surprise for it's decent grasp on the zombie genre in a time when zombies were all but dying out, Dying Light 2 looks set to resurrect them once more with Techland's release in 2019.
An open-world, first-person survival horror with a focus on melee weapons, the sequel will distill the qualities from the first game whilst bringing much more of a focus to RPG style gameplay, with a new protagonist set to carry the torch on from Kyle Crane.
Techland themselves have described the game as the "new dark ages", which seems to imply that the consequences of the apocalypse have sent humanity back in time to a state where we need to rebuild or die out. Zombies are going to be reportedly harder to kill, and moral choices affect your journey through the world. Your very chance of survival could be routed in the narrative itself.
All in all, it sounds like Dying Light 2 has taken all the good stuff from the first title and ran with it, meaning another groundbreaking survival horror game could come and sweep us all off our feet soon enough.
