First Announced: Director Michel Ancel first confirmed that pre-production had begun on a sequel to the cult action-adventurer in a May 2008 interview, though after years of mixed messages and back and forth, BGE2's development was formally confirmed by Ubisoft on 6 October 2016.

Though it was great to see a glossy new cinematic trailer at last year's E3 and a tech demo shortly thereafter, Ancel himself admitted that the game was at "day zero" of development, and with its ambitious, online shared world component, it's clearly several years away from ever possibly being released.

Sadly, though Ubisoft does seem to be co-operating with Ancel on the project, it's just hard to have much faith in it ever getting done. It's much easier to believe that the ambition of the vision will eventually prompt Ubisoft to cut their losses rather than allow development to continue.

After all, does a sequel to a 15-year-old game that sold horribly really feel like something that will ever hit stores with an Ubisoft logo slapped on it?
