And you thought Metal Gear Solid was all over the place.

By the time Assassin's Creed had a few sequels in the bank, Ubisoft's attempt to capitalise on that monumental finale to AC II only resulted in more "All-powerful-God-demands-great-sacrifice-from-lowly-humans" bullhockey.

First came Desmond having to kill Lucy as he was 'possessed' by mystical space energy (or something), and then in AC III, we got this ridiculous setup where some universe-saving 'pedestal' had to be touched, for everything to be okay. The counterpoint was a large meteor hurtling towards Earth, which interacting with the pedestal would somehow stop (as you do).

With barely any thought and only two Gods monologue'ing their intentions, Desmond grips the pedestal, dies, and enacts some sort of global blanket of electricity across the world, as the game cuts away to herald in the credits from its Civil War timeline.

Almost as though the writers couldn't think of a way to wrap this stuff up...
