12 Essential Gaming Sequels That Must Be Announced In 2015

6. Naughty Dog€™s Next Project

Naughty Dog are a studio that until Uncharted 4 was announced, appeared to be sticking to a three game rule; occasionally licensing a portable spin-off like Daxter on PSP or the unbeatable kart racer Crash Team Racing. However, when their 30th Anniversary art book dropped late last year some high-detail sketches appeared of where it seemed the Jak and Daxter franchise was headed, before they canned it and switched to what would become The Last of Us. The sketches allude to a much more serious tone than what went before, with Jak having far more human qualities and proportions, and Daxter a literal pet rat/fox-thing who would sit on his shoulder. It's a strange take on the characters, and as they note in the book it just wasn't Jak and Daxter, so it got shelved. In addition, there's rumours of a Last of Us 2 coming out, with writer Neil Druckmann mentioning that they'd always revisit a franchise if there was "a story worth telling." That much was definitely true in Last of Us' optional DLC, Left Behind - a perfect supplement to Ellie's story that only added to the main game's portrayal of an already fantastic character. Going forward though - and especially after seeing Uncharted 4's gameplay - it feels like this could be the first time the studio are doubling down on something they know works, rather than keeping up the spirit that's defined them in the past. Whatever happens it looks more likely that LoU 2 will at least be addressed in an official capacity one way or the other, but is that what fans really want from something that already feels finished?
