12 Fantastic Video Games You Must Play Over Summer 2015

8. Fallout Shelter

Finally, the paradigm has shifted - finally a game created by a team of actual game designers and not a cabal of formula-following executives has taken over Apple's mobile sales charts. Shelter is essentially Bethesda's attempt at getting in on some of that sweet, sweet mobile market gaming money, and in dethroning Candy Crush's many month-long reign, it should go a long way to proving people do want quality mechanical design in their games after all. Gameplay-wise it's a stat-crunching management sim, except with all the production trimmings and humour only the guys behind Oblivion, Fallout and Skyrim could bring you. Pip-boy keeps you company as you take on the omnipotent role of a vault Overseer, dictating who's going to sleep with who, which areas need improving, where to spend your bottle caps and how to keep everyone happy. Naturally it'll all go skywards at some point as you struggle to please everyone, but it's the fiendishly addictive set of systems in play that easily burrow themselves into your mind and keep you coming back time and time again. They created a title that yes, does have micro-transactions and daily counters that'll tick away faster should you devote your money to speeding them along, but the best part is you don't have to cough up any extra dough if you don't want to - everything is unlockable and playable regardless. That's a core differentiator many other developers need to take more notice of, and here's to Fallout Shelter paving the way for more credible developers to create better mobile titles for everyone.
