12 Gaming Predictions For 2020 (Now E3 Isn't Happening)
6. Resident Evil 8 Is Announced At PS5 Reveal Event, Is Third-Person & Cross-Gen
Though Resident Evil 3 Remake is still several weeks away from release, rumours have been swirling for a good while about the development of Resident Evil 8, the direct follow-up to 2017's critically adored seventh game.
Persistent murmurs have suggested that the game will controversially ditch the first-person perspective of Resident Evil 7, instead returning to the traditional third-person viewpoint, and will take place on an abandoned island where a secret lab is located.
Whether this is all true or not, it's reasonable to believe that the sequel is in some stage of development given that Capcom isn't expected to remake Resident Evil 4, 5, or 6 next.
As such, it wouldn't be remotely surprising to see the game formally announced at Sony's PS5 reveal event some months from now.
The kicker, of course, will be that it's a cross-gen title, playable on PS4 or PS5, Xbox One or Xbox Series X, and PC also. Resident Evil 7 was first announced during Sony's E3 2016 show, so again, there's something approaching precedent here.
