If the PS5 is indeed delayed, it could very well be to the gain of Sony's competitors, including Google, whose Stadia cloud gaming platform has been off to a rather rough start over the last few months.

With Stadia patently failing to deliver on Google's promises with its insufficient specs and mediocre selection of games, many are fearing it'll simply become the latest piece of tech the company quickly abandons.

But if Sony foregoes 2020 without a PS5 release, it could leave some room for Google to salvage Stadia with a re-branding of sorts, including the introduction of a new business model.

One of the chief complaints about Stadia is its pricing model, which charges customers the same price they'd expect to pay for a native, local gaming experience, despite it being an objectively inferior streamed equivalent.

That's not to forget the monthly fee of $9.99/£8.99 required to play games in 4K 60FPS with 5.1 surround sound. Woof.

Many were disappointed that Stadia didn't instead opt for a Netflix-style subscription model, and amid the current market apathy for Stadia, Google could announce a tactical change before the end of the year.

After all, a monthly fee to stream hundreds of classic games and a selection of new AAA titles - possibly with tiered pricing models for the newest games - will be far more appealing to most than paying the full RRP for single streamed titles.
