12 Greatest Opening Video Game Sequences Since 2000

10. Saint's Row 4

Time to indulge in a little crazy, as it's all well and good having seriously-directed games that immerse you through atmosphere and enigmatic characters, but what of when a developer just wants to make one of the most self-aware ridiculous titles of the modern age? Saints Row's upcoming instalment 'Gat Out Of Hell' is starting to take this idea a bit too far - in that you're a demon-winged gangster in a Hell-scorched city - but in Volition's followup to the already totally insane Saints Row's two and three, for part four the opening scene is just... how do you say, "full of win". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMX2hfYfeE8 Completely a product of its time and one born from the most maddening parts of internet culture, Saints' opening mission is a plethora of pop-culture references and balls-a'flailing stupidity. Following a cutscene that darts from a Game of Thrones-visual into a smattering of Little Richard over the stereo, the missile-equipped maniac who you're after ends up launching his nuke, only for you to ride it up into space as Aerosmith's 'I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing' comes on - leading to a mid-air disarm and a freefall back to Earth where you land in the White House only to discover your character is the President of the United States. Now that we think about it, a fireball-throwing devil-homie was probably the only way they could've gone after this.
