3. The Last Guardian
The further this list goes on, the more it looks like 2016 will be the Year of the Overdue Game. No game demonstrate this more strongly than The Last Guardian, the third game in the sort-of trilogy that previously consisted of PS2 classics ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. The game sees you control a young boy, who's teamed up with Trico, a giant cat-bird-dog hybrid which helps him traverse a vertiginous, ruined world filled with precarious ledges, puzzles and platforms. Stealth will play a crucial part in the game too, as when you're not around Trico you'll need to sneak around the hostile shadow-guards that patrol the world. Looking at the trailer, and judging by past games in the series, The Last Guardian looks set to be an emotionally resounding tale of friendship in a melancholy world that feels like its best days are behind it. One downside? That kid's shouting could get seriously grating after a while. That aside, it's full steam ahead for this long-awaited and unique adventure.
