With an impressive Metascore of 88, Giant Sparrow's What Remains of Edith Finch is the big indie darling of 2017, an intriguing "experience" of a game that's nevertheless a little too piecemeal to be genuinely great in its own right.

Many will disagree, clearly, but considering how long the game spent in the oven, coming five years after the studio's previous effort The Unfinished Swan, it's fair to say that many fans were expecting a much larger and more expansive title.

Clocking in at only around two hours, Edith Finch told a poignant story at a premium asking price, considering we live in an age where the "price of a movie ticket" analogy no longer holds water with VOD services like Netflix changing things up.

It's a heartfelt, gorgeous game at times, but you'd be well within reason to have expected a more substantial title after five years in development.
