12 Nintendo Franchises That Could Be Adapted Into Movies

2. The Legend Of Zelda

Ask any Nintendo fanatic which gaming franchise they'd like to see made into a film, and The Legend Of Zelda will be the first thing that they suggest - without fail. Justifiably too, given how utterly magical the franchise is at its best. Zelda is the company's most consistently brilliant franchise, with some of the strongest games on each console (The Legend Of Zelda, A Link To The Past, Ocarina Of Time, Link's Awakening, The Wind Waker, Skyward Sword, A Link Between Worlds...) coming from the Zelda series. It is also probably the franchise with the most likely chance of crossing over successfully into the film market. It's got wonderful characters, plenty of stunning stories to draw on, a surreal edge (weirdness and experimentation are very much "in" within both films and television at the moment), and a tie-in to the fantasy worlds of huge film/TV franchises like Game Of Thrones and LOTR/The Hobbit. It would also work in live action, without question. In fact, The Legend Of Zelda games feel so cinematic that it genuinely wouldn't be surprising if Nintendo don't start with just one Link-related film, but instead choose to create an entire trilogy. That would be a dream that Zelda fans would never want to wake from. Casting Suggestion: EVERYONE that thinks about casting this film suggests Thomas Brodie-Sangster... And with good reason. He looks EXACTLY like Link (hair excluded). He has to take the role. He's a gifted actor anyway, so would be more than capable of carrying the film. Zelda is a trickier one, and it depends on the portrayal. Would Nintendo want an all-action Zelda, or a more generic "princess locked in a tower" type? Kristen Stewart for the former, Charlize Theron for the latter? Likelihood: 10/10 Desirability: 10/10
