12 Nintendo Franchises That Could Be Adapted Into Movies

5. Donkey Kong

Although it might be hard to envisage Donkey and Diddy Kong fronting a film, their star potential is large enough that it might just work. Obviously it would have to be animated (can you imagine a film centred on a CGI gorilla running around causing havoc wherev... Wait, never mind.), and it would probably have to be comical, but then there was always a humorous streak running through the best Donkey Kong games anyway. Donkey Kong is one of the oldest gaming characters around, and he is popular with both older and younger audiences. He's instantly recognisable, so why wouldn't a film about him be successful? They'd have to make him speak, which would be somewhat out of character, but he has spoken in several games... So it's not too much of a leap. Really, it seems likely that Nintendo would introduce characters like DK, Wario and Yoshi through the medium of a Mario film, in the knowledge that it would increase their exposure and thus provide the potential to make any films featuring them in future a success. Casting Suggestion: Jack Black has experience in playing with CGI apes, so he's probably a prime candidate for the role of Donkey. Diddy is trickier. He's effectively like a hyperactive, irritating-but-loveable little kid. Oliver Woollford, who was exceptional in Utopia, would be a great choice. Likelihood: 7/10 Desirability: 8/10
