5. Wheatley Is Worse Than GLaDOS - Portal 2
Portal 2 begins with Chell awakening from her slumber, where she's greeted by a bumbling robot called Wheatley, voiced impeccably by Stephen Merchant. Despite his blatant incompetence, Wheatley does all he can to help you navigate through the Aperture Science facility.
After you discover the murderous AI from the previous game, GLaDOS, has been reactivated, Wheatley bends over backwards to stop her from killing you. When he asks you to remove GLaDOS from her core and swap him in, it sounds like the first good idea he’s come up with.
After you accomplish this task, you half-expect the game to end, now that the danger has been taken care of.
But after Wheatley takes over GLaDOS’ body and obtains full control of the complex, he becomes consumed with power, and tries to kill you.
Not only was this an unexpected turn, it was genuinely hurtful. Up until this point, the player had no sense Wheatley had anything but good intentions. Due to Stephen Merchant’s lighthearted manner and friendly banter, you never had the slightest inkling Wheatley would ever hurt you, not to mention become the main villain.
