12 Tear-Jerking Video Game Stories That'll Melt Your Heart

2. Bethesda Helped Out A Guy Who Immersed Himself In Skyrim Following His Sister's Death

Anyone's who ever played the Elder Scrolls: Skyrim will tell you how absorbing the game world is. It draws you in and refuses to let go, purely because the game is so beautiful and the lore is so enthralling. For some, it's innocent fun but for others, it's escapism at its finest. A Reddit user called Paul - going by the name of 'lb-Cyber' - posted to the Skyrim subreddit in 2013, explaining how he had lost his sister to cancer and he was finding himself sinking further and further into depression. He said:
The loss left me feeling more isolated and alone than I had ever felt before. I sought whichever outlets I could to help clear my mind from the flurry of thoughts and emotions. Skyrim was one such outlet, and its escapism really did help me handle the grieving process.
At this point, Bethesda's Matt Grandstaff decided he was going to help him out. On the day of a memorial in his sister's honour, a package arrived at the door and inside was a special book, signed by every member of Skyrim's development team.
There was also a letter from Matt, offering his prayers and support. It was a great gesture from the developers; they make fantastic games, but it's stories like this that show just how much they mean to some people.
