1. The Teenager Who Discovered His Dad's 'Ghost' On A Racing Game
Sometimes you'll read something that hits you hard, you can't help but think back to it. It's a story that touches you so deeply, you simply can't forget about it. In the comments section of a PBS video called 'Can Video Games Be A Spiritual Experience,' a user called '00WARTHERAPY00' told of how he - just four-years-old - and his dad enjoyed playing Rallisport Challenge on Xbox. It was good, solid father and son time for the two. Ten years after his passing, he brushed off the old Xbox and fired it up for old times' sake. What happened next was incredible: a ghost of a car appeared and the boy found himself up against his dad's ghost. It turned out he'd set the lap record on this particular level and it felt like he was playing his dad's spirit. He explained:
So I played and played, and played, until I was almost able to beat the ghost. until one day I got ahead of it, I surpassed it, and...- I stopped right in front of the finish line, just to ensure I wouldn't delete it.
It's times like this that show the profound effect games can have on people; it was a uniquely spiritual moment and when the guy was tracked down, he spoke of his disbelief at the coverage his story had received. The world should pay more attention to things like this; not everything is doom and gloom, and some stories just make you feel warm and gooey inside.
