6. The FIFA Player Who Tracked A Troll Down And Made Him Apologise
A little under a week ago, a post popped up on the FIFA subreddit from a user called 'mailmanjr21' - he'd been playing online when his opponent sent a rather nasty troll to him, wishing his family and friends would die of a disease. It's horrible, but we've all received abuse in our time, right? Well, it hit a bit close to home because mailmanjr21 told Reddit that his brother is battling cancer, and they've received the unfortunate news that the illness is spreading across his body. He urged people to think about what they say in future and left it at that. But the story took a turn when a guy by the name of 'nordic-thunder' added the troll on Xbox Live and explained the situation to him. According to nordic-thunder:
He was an otherwise decent person who was frustrated by a game. I just wanted him to know that he hurt another person who was in pain, and he realised what he had done and was remorseful.
The story blew up online and there were accusations of a witch hunt, but the FIFA community are banding together, adding the user and playing a few friendly games with him to show it's nothing personal. It's a heartwarming story about one anonymous gamer providing an inch of comfort to another at their time of need. EA also deserve a shoutout; one of their community reps Chu Morah saw the original post and contacted the user, expressing his sympathy and promising him some Ultimate Team goodies. Kudos to all involved.
