3. Cortana's Naked Lady Redesign In Halo 4

There was no worthwhile reason to try and make the helper AI and all-round charming companion Cortana a "sexy lady". None.

Fans had already fell in love with her pleasantly nerdy charms across the original trilogy, and though Bungie had to accentuate her figure to some degree with suggestive aesthetics, she was still very much a holographic projection of a program. Her personality came first, and there was nothing overtly "alluring" about her portrayal.

Hop across to Halo 4, and this new Cortana - who in the game timeline, was emerging from just being shut down for a few years - had clearly gone shopping online for some lingerie. Looking quite starkly like a naked woman, it immediately jarred with the fanbase, as suddenly we had a Cortana whose presence in the game was more sexual and honestly, distracting, than ever before.

Come Halo 5, 343 would go back to a design that looked more like the natural evolution of Halo 3's model - an all-round better look for the character... until that game's final plot twist threw the franchise off a cliff.
