12 Upcoming Video Games That Might Be Surprisingly Awesome
6. Assassin's Creed Odyssey
Release Date: October 5
It's easy to just dismiss each new Assassin's Creed game as more of the same, though last year's Origins did at least introduce a greater abundance of RPG elements, and was generally embraced as a fresh spin on the franchise's well-regimented formula.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey looks set to follow that lead by leaning into the RPG mechanics even more, with dialogue options, branching quests, multiple endings, extensive romance options and also the ability to choose the protagonist's gender for the first time.
Plus, isn't the Ancient Greece setting kinda awesome? This looks like it's drawing plenty of stylistic cues from Zack Snyder's 300, and that should result in an entertainingly OTT time in the very least.
Don't expect it to be a totally radical reworking of the series, but it certainly looks different and interesting enough to tempt even those not overly fond of the franchise.
