12 Upcoming Video Games That Might Be Surprisingly Awesome
7. Control
Release Date: TBA 2019
Max Payne and Alan Wake developers Remedy Entertainment revealed their new sci-fi actioner Control at this year's E3, and the early response to the title seems relatively mixed.
Though there was near-universal praise for the game's impressively mind-bending visuals, it was also tough to escape the feeling that the game was lazily recycling the style and perhaps even assets of their previous game, Quantum Break.
With Quantum Break itself being a pretty mixed bag, that makes it tough to get too excited about Control's potential. However, Remedy's creative director Sam Lake has insisted in interviews that the game is more open-ended than their previous efforts, even comparing it to the Metroidvania genre.
Considering Quantum Break's linearity was one of its biggest downfalls, that's definitely an encouraging comment about Control's design philosophy moving forward. It's still smart to wait for reviews, but at least it seems like the game might be more than a thinly-veiled asset flip.
